About Us

History

Dan Maldonado’s mission in 2013 was simple: feed our hungry neighbors. To that end, Goar Park Lunches was born and, in 2018, became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

To say that the community’s support was exuberant is an understatement. Since our founding, dozens of volunteers have contributed thousands of hours of their time - dicing, chopping, roasting, grating, frying, stewing, slicing, baking, whisking, decorating, serving, washing dishes, even gardening - to ensure that anyone who needs a meal in Bisbee gets one.

The impact was instantly palpable, and in 2017, Goar Park Lunches won the Herald Review’s Best of Bisbee award for best Local Charity. Really, it’s no surprise given that Bisbee is a town that takes care of its own.

Since then, we’ve focused on building a strong, sustainable future such that Healthy Bisbee | Goar Park Lunches can continue to serve quality, comforting, nourishing meals - with a side of graciousness and dignity - for years to come.

Leadership

Leading the way in the kitchen is our Director of Operations, Dana House. Before joining us, Dana spent 11 years as the sole proprietor and head chef of The Quarry, a beloved local gastropub known for its award-winning dishes and creative flair. That same ingenuity now shapes every meal she helps bring to the table—a true gift when most of our ingredients are donated. Deeply connected to local farmers, purveyors and neighbors alike, Dana’s lived experience and community roots infuse her work with care, creativity, and an unwavering sense of service

Behind the scenes, Board Chair Liza Kovach keeps the kitchen humming. With a background that blends accounting know-how and food bank expertise, Liza makes sure the lights stay on, the stoves stay lit, and the mission stays strong. Before landing in Bisbee ___ years ago, she held leadership roles with Mountain Health & Wellness and the Apache Junction Food Bank. Most recently, she brought her guidance to Freeport-McMoRan’s Bisbee Resilience Plan committee - another example of her deep commitment to the community she now proudly serves.
